The same principles hold true for a lateral radiograph from a dog in left lateral recumbency. The more cranial dorsal shadow is provided by the crus of the diaphragm on the “lower” side.

In this example from a dog in left lateral recumbency the left crus (which is "lower") is more cranial than the right crus. The right and left crura usually cross. The right crus still blends with the caudal vena cava.

Remember- before comparing the image series to a left lateral radiograph you have to "flip" the image in your head so that the cranial aspect is screen left..just like the left lateral radiograph. Tap radiograph above to toggle shading.
